The 2023 NFL Draft saw the Las Vegas Raiders surpass most predictions when they chose Tyree Wilson and Michael Mayer in the first two rounds.
Thayer Munford Jr., a 6-foot-6, 375-pound fill-in starter at right tackle who was selected in the 2022 draft, is discussing the “hard knocks” he experienced in his first season with the squad as the team gears up for the next campaign.
Munford, Jr. was chosen with the 238th overall choice in the 2022 NFL Draft and has since assimilated into the squad as a valuable player.
However, the seventh-round pick of the Raiders had a difficult start to the season. Early on, he clashed with teammates Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones, which was unusual for the Buckeyes.
Munford, Jr. reflected on his first year by saying, “Usually I’m used to beating everybody, like every one-on-one rep.” But now that I’m up against (Raider defensive standouts) Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones, I feel like I’m not really defeating everyone because they’re really crazy excellent.
How can I go through this and still be the greatest version of myself, is how I feel.
Wyatt Davis, a guard with the New York Giants and a former teammate of Munford, Jr., offered Munford, Jr. advice on how to handle the crisis. He believes he can make a significant contribution going into his sophomore campaign.
In a phone conversation with the Beacon Journal this week, Munford remarked, “First year it’s like, well, wow, I’m actually here.” “Now it seems like a job. I truly enjoyed the game; I adored it. The moment has come to go grab it.
This season, the Raiders’ offensive line is anticipated to gain at least one undrafted free agent. The club will announce its regular-season schedule on May 11.
